BACK IN KASSEL

EVENT // NONGKRONG // 3rd MAY 2024 KASSEL // WERKSTATT e.V.

We’re back in Kassel and have a lot ahead of us!

On May 3rd, we met again at the Werkstatt e.V. at Huttenplatz (Kassel) to share the results of our journey and to collectively plan the upcoming summer.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the Werkstatt for once again providing us with their space. We’re looking forward to the summer with all of you!

First, we went through the journey in a presentation, attempting to report on all the approaches and friendships in Indonesia and Bangladesh in a short time. It was a challenging task that didn’t quite succeed. The planned 20 minutes quickly turned into 30 and then an hour… So many impressions and connections were made with Jatiwangi Art Factory, Selarasa, Britto Arts Trust, and many others. While we’re still processing the video material, our main concern is to share knowledge and ideas vividly. That’s why conversations and collaboration are currently at the forefront, resulting in an open dialogue rather than a frontal presentation.

Immediately afterward, we introduced the new website. After much work, our new online presence is finally ready and waiting to be filled with stories. This is where our documentaries are created. This is where you can reach us. Do you have topics and requests for contributions or do you want to write something yourself? You’re welcome to share!

Connecting ecosystems has returned to Kassel. But what happens next? The past few weeks have been spent planning and expanding our resources to offer as participatory and free a program as possible. Together with the Werkstatt, which once again provides us with their premises for the summer, we have created a residency program that will be exhibited at the Night of Museums in Kassel (September 7, 2024). The intensive work phase will take place in August beforehand, where we definitely want to collaborate with initiatives in Kassel. It is also important for the resident artists to network in urban space and move away from the traditional exhibition situation. To narrow down the theme spectrum a bit, we have developed the following topic from the trip: Given the current events surrounding the supply chain law in the EU, we want to explore the connections between material, earth, and people in a globalized world. Various questions could be addressed:

How are our local environments influenced by global entanglements? What role do microbes play in a post-anthropocene world with postcolonial ecologies? How are we connected to our environment, the soil, and the microbes in our bodies? How do we take care of our social and ecological environments?

Together with the initiatives in Kassel, we have initiated an open mapping on these questions and the possible offerings of the summer. In the discussion round, accompanied by eager writing and line drawing, a great interest in the topic area was already expressed, and together we were able to outline our offer for the summer, having to hold back several times in our enthusiasm not to be too specific.

Of course, communal cooking was not to be missed. With herbs from the ForstFeldGarten, a green sauce with potatoes was prepared, with Tempe (thanks, Betti!) as a side dish.

After the successful start meeting into a joint 2024, regular meetings will now follow. We look forward to seeing you!
